Ukrainian Engineers Assess Power Stations in Eight EU Countries for Repairs

Ukrainian engineering teams have recently conducted assessments of operational power stations in eight European Union countries, including Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Austria, and Croatia. This initiative, announced by Denis Shmyhal, Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, aims to identify necessary equipment for Ukrainian energy companies as the heating season approaches.

Shmyhal noted that specific machinery from the Riga Thermal Power Plant has garnered interest from Ukrainian firms. This effort is part of a broader strategy to restore Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which has been extensively damaged in the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Restoration Goals

The Ukrainian government has set an ambitious goal to restore four gigawatts (GW) of power generation capacity lost due to Russian attacks before winter begins. Officials are also working to secure a reserve of repair equipment that will be three times more substantial than what was lost during the conflict.

This proactive approach is intended to enhance the country’s energy resilience against current and future threats.

Collaboration with EU Nations
