During their meeting, Shmyhal and Klöckner addressed the shipment of equipment needed for the restoration of energy infrastructure in Ukraine. Shmyhal indicated that some equipment from decommissioned German facilities has already been dismantled and prepared for shipment.

Ukraine expects to receive this equipment in the near term. Additionally, they discussed the potential dismantling and transfer of more equipment from other German energy facilities, underlining the significance of timely support for Ukraine's energy recovery efforts.
Shmyhal emphasized the urgent need for a 90 billion euro loan from the European Union, of which he hopes to secure 5 billion euros specifically for immediate energy needs in 2026. This loan is deemed critical to stabilize and rebuild Ukraine’s energy sector, which has faced severe challenges due to the ongoing conflict.
The German government's previous support has included humanitarian aid totaling 15.9 million dollars, along with a substantial contribution of 552.4 million euros to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine, highlighting Germany's significant role in aiding Ukraine amidst the war. The conversation occurs amid heightened attention to Ukraine’s energy challenges as the country continues to navigate the impacts of the conflict.
Klöckner's visit marks her first official trip to Kyiv, reaffirming Germany’s commitment to supporting Ukraine despite broader geopolitical issues, including turmoil in the Middle East, which has not diverted Germany's focus from Ukraine. The exchange signifies an ongoing partnership between Ukraine and Germany, particularly in the energy sector, where timely repairs and upgrades are vital for ensuring the stability of power supply across the country.
The discussions not only reflect immediate logistical needs but also long-term strategic cooperation vital for Ukraine's recovery and resilience. Shmyhal's clear communication regarding both the requests for equipment and financial support from the EU indicates a proactive approach to addressing urgent national needs in the energy sector.
