As of the morning of March 16, power consumers in the Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions are without electricity following intentional strikes on energy infrastructure. Ukrenergo reported on its Facebook page that emergency restoration work has commenced in areas where safety conditions permit.
The utility is striving to restore power as quickly as possible to affected consumers. The reason for the outages stems from a series of hostile actions targeting Ukraine's energy systems.
These attacks prompt scheduled power limitations for both industry and residential categories across all regions of Ukraine from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM until conditions improve. The demand for electricity this morning was reported to be 3.8% lower than the previous working day, attributed to the clear weather that enhances the efficiency of residential solar power generation.
Ukrenergo advised consumers to adjust their energy use based on weather conditions. Notably, they recommend operating high-powered equipment during peak sunlight hours from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, which is when solar panels are most effective.
This adjustment could help mitigate the overall impact of the outages. Additionally, the company has requested users to limit the usage of multiple high-powered appliances simultaneously during the implementation of temporary hourly outages.
This precaution aims to ease the strain on the electrical grid while restoration efforts are ongoing. As part of ongoing recovery measures, Ukrainian engineering teams have conducted inspections of commissioned stations in eight EU countries to secure necessary equipment for repairs.
These collaborations reflect Ukraine's commitment to restoring its energy capabilities despite ongoing military pressure from Russia.
