In a recent evening address, Zelenskyy expressed frustration with the lack of advancement on punitive measures targeting Moscow, stating there is still no progress on the EU's 20th sanctions package. He highlighted the importance of these sanctions as Russia continues its offensive operations. The delay in the proposed €90 billion aid package further complicates Ukraine's ability to sustain its defense against ongoing aggression. Zelenskyy coordinated discussions on these matters with French President Emmanuel Macron, emphasizing that both leaders recognize the urgency of action. He mentioned that the upcoming week would focus on collaborative efforts with European partners to break the current stalemate and ensure necessary decisions are implemented promptly. In addition to focusing on sanctions, Zelenskyy acknowledged those countries participating in the PURL program, enabling Ukraine to procure essential air defense systems from the United States. He specifically thanked nations that have assisted in acquiring Patriot missiles, underscoring the critical need for enhanced air defenses amid ongoing attacks. Zelenskyy's address also touched on broader geopolitical concerns, noting alarming collaboration between Russia and Iran. He indicated that Russian military support for the Iranian regime includes sharing intelligence to better target American forces, with evidence suggesting Russian-made components are present in Iranian drones used against targets in the Middle East. This cooperation poses a dual threat, implicating both Europe and the Middle East in a coordinated security crisis. The president affirmed Ukraine's commitment to countering such threats and expressed hope for continued support from the international community to protect its sovereignty. While western allies grapple with the intricacies of imposing sanctions and distributing aid, Zelenskyy’s remarks underline an urgent need for decisive action to bolster Ukraine's defense capacity.
