The recent approval allows the JEDI Shahed Hunter drones to enhance Ukraine's defense against Russian aerial threats, specifically targeting Shahed-type attack drones including the Geran and Gerbera models. These UAVs can also intercept reconnaissance drones like Zala and Supercam, showcasing their multi-functional capabilities.
The JEDI Shahed Hunter is a copter-type drone featuring vertical takeoff capabilities, lightweight construction, and high-performance electric motors, providing a strategic advantage in swiftly engaging airborne threats. With a total weight just over 4 kg, each drone can carry a payload of up to 500 grams, sufficient to disable hostile drones effectively.
The JEDI Shahed Hunter is engineered for speed, capable of exceeding 350 km/h and achieving altitudes of 6 km. Its integration with radar stations enables real-time data processing, allowing for rapid deployment to intercept threats.
Notably, a dedicated ground control station supports stable communication and precise targeting, ensuring that the interceptor can lock onto targets automatically. The drone's operational design incorporates advanced imaging technology, including both daytime and thermal cameras, facilitating effective engagement both during daylight and nighttime operations.
The system significantly extends its coverage, capable of defending airspace within a 40 km radius against enemy drones. The Ministry of Defense emphasized that securing Ukrainian airspace is a paramount objective in the ongoing conflict.
The aim is to detect 100% of aerial threats in real time and maintain a high interception rate of at least 95% for missiles and drones. This strategic move comes as part of broader efforts to bolster Ukraine's defensive capabilities amid escalating tensions and ongoing military engagements.
As previously reported, the Ministry has also approved the deployment of the Ukrainian-made strike quadcopter Ptashka, further diversifying the operational arsenal available to the Armed Forces. The introduction of the JEDI Shahed Hunter marks a significant step in enhancing technological capabilities for aerial defense against the backdrop of a complex and evolving threat landscape.
