Zenon Koval, a Belgian diplomat and member of the Executive of the World Congress of Ukrainians, spoke to Ukrinform about Ukraine's diplomatic efforts to reinforce its international standing. He highlighted the recent proposal for air defense support to Gulf countries as a strategic step that could yield fruitful partnerships.

Koval noted the financial resources and diverse interests of these nations, suggesting that Ukraine could benefit from solidifying new alliances. He stated, “It would certainly do us no harm to have even more good partners.” Koval stressed the importance of Ukraine continuing to build its subjectivity on the international stage.
He mentioned that creating and utilizing one's leverage is crucial for enhancing Ukraine's role in global affairs. He asserted that fostering such contacts does not contradict Ukraine's strong ties with the European Union, which also seeks to bolster relationships with Gulf states and aid in resolving ongoing conflicts in the region.
Further, Koval pointed out the unprecedented coalition supporting Ukraine, which encompasses around 50 countries in the Ramstein format. He warned that maintaining and expanding this coalition is vital, as adversaries are actively trying to undermine its unity.
Koval remarked that substantial diplomatic efforts are required to reinforce this coalition against threats from those who seek to fracture it. Additionally, Koval expressed concerns about potential rising oil prices due to the ongoing Middle Eastern crisis, which could result in increased revenues for the aggressor state involved.
He also questioned whether the U.S. administration has a clear strategy for addressing the energy crisis that has implications extending far beyond the Middle East.
President Volodymyr Zelensky recently revealed that Ukraine has received six requests for assistance from Middle Eastern nations in the context of the conflict with Iran. The Ukrainian leadership anticipates the return of their delegation from the Gulf region to clarify the specific types and volumes of aid expected from these countries.
