Ukraine Establishes New Air Defense Line After Major Attack

Ukraine has made significant advancements in its air defense capabilities following a series of aerial attacks. The Defense Ministry's efforts have already shown results in major urban areas, where the effectiveness of the air defense systems has been notably heightened.

Now, as a response to the latest extensive air assault on March 24, the ministry is focused on establishing a new defense line to further protect against threats in western Ukraine. This comes in light of the heaviest aerial assault the nation has faced since the onset of the full-scale war, where Ukrainian forces managed to intercept over 94% of incoming threats.

The attack included a combination of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and approximately 999 drones reported to have been deployed by Russian forces. Notably, around 250 drones were launched specifically in the Kyiv region.

According to the Defense Ministry, while such a drone deployment was previously characteristic of widespread attacks during the war, the ability to neutralize the majority of these threats within a single region marks a turning point in Ukraine's defensive operations. The situation prompted the ministry to recognize the need for a layered air defense strategy that can respond more effectively to various attacking mechanisms.

This new approach will integrate all available resources, including air force units, interceptor drones, mobile fire groups, tactical aviation, and helicopters to counter these complex aerial threats. Ukrainian Defense officials emphasized that the country's air operations are increasingly unique on the global stage, showcasing innovative strategies that are evolving as the war persists.

The growing efficacy of these operations aims to minimize damage to critical urban areas, which have historically been prime targets during enemy strikes. Understanding the limitations of their previous tactics, it is apparent that Russian forces are employing all available resources during assaults, taking advantage of the evolving landscape of the conflict.

The Defense Ministry affirmed that its air defense units are executing commendably under pressure, indicating a heightened level of operational efficiency compared to earlier stages of the war. On the night leading up to the significant March 24 attack, Russia launched a combined aerial onslaught, resulting in damage across 11 regions, underscoring the ongoing volatility of the situation.

As Ukraine fortifies its air defense mechanisms, the ministry aims to ensure peace and security within its urban centers against potential future threats.
