Ukraine Defends Against Major Russian Drone and Missile Attack

In the early hours of March 9, Russian forces launched a multi-pronged assault on Ukraine, deploying two Iskander-M ballistic missiles alongside a total of 197 drones, primarily of the Shahed type. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, around 120 of the drones were identified as Shahed.

The attack began around midnight and was met with an immediate response from Ukrainian air defense units. Ukrainian military officials reported that as of 8 a.m., air defense systems had successfully neutralized 161 enemy drones of various models, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmash.

This impressive interception took place across the northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country, showcasing the effectiveness of Ukraine's defense mechanisms. Despite the successful defense efforts, the strikes resulted in confirmed hits on eight locations, with parts of intercepted drones and missiles falling in residential areas.
