UAE Political Scientist Emphasizes Cooperation with Ukraine Against Iranian Threats

In an exclusive interview, Emirati political scientist Abdul Khaleq Abdullah emphasized the growing solidarity between the United Arab Emirates and Ukraine when addressing regional security threats. He pointed out that their cooperation against Iranian drone technology, specifically the Shahed-136 variants, serves as a vital link between the two nations.

"Every Emirati is grateful for and appreciates Ukraine's help," Abdullah stated. He noted that this partnership against a shared adversary could enhance their diplomatic relations. The support Ukraine provides in countering Iranian drone threats is both tactical and strategic, particularly since Iranian technology has been utilized by Russia to target Ukrainian civilian infrastructure.

Geopolitical Connections

"Considering that Russia is helping Iran and Iran is helping Russia, we are in the same trench," Abdullah remarked. His comments reflect a heightened understanding of the interconnected nature of regional geopolitics, especially amidst increasing Iranian aggression, which raises concerns in the UAE.

Abdullah also highlighted the significant impact of these threats on Emirati society, stating, "We will never forget this aggression," illustrating long-standing tensions with Iran.

Domestic Preparedness

Abdullah characterized Iran as a primary threat to the UAE and other Gulf Arab nations. He noted a noticeable shift in attitudes among UAE citizens and officials, which could influence future diplomatic efforts.

On the domestic front, the Emirati government has proactively secured essential resources, maintaining strategic reserves of water, food, and medicine to safeguard its population amid rising regional tensions. He emphasized that the UAE has prepared these strategic reserves for at least two years, not only for its own citizens but also to assist other Gulf Arab countries in times of crisis.

Enhanced Collaboration

Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelensky's administration is actively working to fortify ties with Gulf nations. Zelensky revealed that Ukrainian experts are collaborating with these countries to share knowledge and develop countermeasures against Iranian drone threats. This partnership extends beyond political statements, aiming for concrete security results.
