In an exclusive interview, Abdul Khaleq Abdullah articulated the increasing solidarity between the United Arab Emirates and Ukraine amidst ongoing regional security challenges. He highlighted that assistance in countering Iranian drones, particularly the Shahed-136 models, represents a significant bonding point for the two nations.

"Every Emirati is grateful for and appreciates Ukraine's help," Abdullah noted, underscoring that this collaboration against a common enemy could strengthen their alliance. Abdullah remarked that the support Ukraine provides in handling the Iranian drone menace is not just tactical but strategic, as Russia leverages Iranian technology against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure.
"Considering that Russia is helping Iran and Iran is helping Russia, we are in the same trench," he stated. The academic's assertions reveal a growing recognition of the interconnectedness of regional geopolitics, especially as Iranian aggression increasingly raises alarm in the Emirates.
Additionally, he pointed out the profound impact of Iranian threats on Emirati society. Abdullah stated, "We will never forget this aggression...
Iran is the most dangerous enemy for the UAE and other Arab countries in the Gulf." He contextualized this hostility by explaining the historical relationship between Iran and the UAE, identifying a shift in perception amongst UAE citizens and officials that could reshape future diplomatic interactions. On the domestic front, Abdullah noted that the Emirati government has been proactive in securing essential resources, maintaining strategic reserves of water, food, and medicine to ensure the welfare of its population amid rising tensions in the region.
He mentioned, "The UAE has strategic reserves for at least two years for its own population and other Arab countries in the Gulf," which indicates the Emirati administration's foresight in managing potential crises. As the situation unfolds, the Ukrainian government under President Volodymyr Zelensky is also taking steps towards solidifying ties with Gulf partners.
Zelensky revealed that Ukrainian specialists are collaborating with Middle Eastern nations to share their expertise in drone countermeasures against Iranian threats, reinforcing the notion that this collaboration goes beyond mere political rhetoric and is aimed at tangible security outcomes.
