The detainee created fake social media accounts using registered mobile numbers from Ukrainian telecom operators. These accounts were then handed over to Russian intelligence services to facilitate recruitment operations.
The SSU revealed that the suspect also opened online bank accounts in the names of individuals who were coerced into providing their banking information. Many of these targets were reportedly drug-dependent or unemployed, persuaded by one-time payments.
Additionally, the suspect personally selected potential candidates for recruitment, passing their information to the FSB, Russia's primary security agency. He allegedly assisted Russian operations by facilitating an unemployed local from the Rivne region to adjust air strikes against Ukrainian defense forces.
This involved marking their locations on Google Maps and sending that data to his FSB handler. SSU officers acted swiftly, apprehending the suspect at his residence. During the operation, they seized smartphones and other computer equipment containing evidence of his cooperation with enemy forces.
Both he and another suspect involved in similar activities were charged under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which addresses high treason during martial law.
