During a press conference on March 11, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko revealed that Russian military units are conducting basic combined training exercises close to Nikopol, less than 10 kilometers away. He emphasized that these exercises include launching drones specifically targeting civilian areas.

This latest information further illustrates the ongoing threat to civilians in the region as the conflict continues. The situation in Nikopol remains dire, with attacks reportedly constant and devastating.
Klymenko provided additional context about the operations, indicating that the Russian forces are employing both drones and artillery in separate assaults on the town. He described the area as being under continuous bombardment, making life for residents increasingly perilous.
Nikopol's infrastructure is under strain, endangering not only the physical safety of its inhabitants but also the ability of local government to function effectively. Furthermore, Klymenko noted that the town of Semenivka in Chernihiv Oblast is also experiencing severe attacks.
He described this area as Ukraine's northernmost district center, which has faced destruction within a 20-kilometer radius, targeting municipalities to obstruct local governance. The consistent shelling has rendered many border settlements uninhabitable, leading to significant humanitarian challenges.
The Ukrainian government continues to express concerns regarding civilian safety and the targeting of infrastructure. Klymenko’s remarks underscore the ongoing tactics employed by Russian forces in their military strategy, which seemingly disregards civilian life.
As the conflict continues, the International community watches closely, recognizing the implications of such attacks on the regional and global scale. This situation raises alarms about the international community's response to civilian protection in conflict zones.
With reports of drone usage against populated areas, there is a growing need for robust discussions on humanitarian laws and the safeguarding of non-combatants in warfare.
