Ukrainian officials reported a series of assaults by the Russian military overnight, culminating in a drone strike on a train in the Kharkiv area. Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba confirmed that the attack occurred during a broader offensive where drones targeted various infrastructures.

Fortunately, no passengers were harmed in the incident, reflecting the ongoing risks to rail operations in Ukraine amid heightened hostilities. Kuleba shared that the attack resulted in injuries to the train's driver and assistant, who sustained shrapnel wounds.
Medical assistance was provided promptly on site. Meanwhile, damage was reported to the locomotive that was operating due to a lack of power in the overhead contact system, further complicating railway operations in the region.
In a related incident, Kuleba mentioned that prior to the Kharkiv attack, another drone strike occurred in Kryvyi Rih, hitting a rail station and damaging a locomotive. Thankfully, the crew was evacuated ahead of time, preventing injuries there as well.
This reflects the ongoing threat to Ukraine's railway infrastructure, crucial for both passenger transport and logistics. Despite the attacks, Kuleba reassured the public that trains operated by Ukrzaliznytsia are continuing to run.
The resilience of the railway system is vital for maintaining connection and support across the country during these challenging times. The government emphasizes the importance of swift response measures to ensure passenger safety amid ongoing military engagements.
The persistent threat from aerial assaults not only disrupts normal railway operations but also impacts the logistical movement of goods and people essential for the war-torn nation's recovery efforts. Kuleba's statements underscore the precarious balance between ongoing military threats and the resilience of Ukrainian infrastructure amidst the conflict.
