Poland Scrambles Fighters After Russian Drone Attacks on Ukraine

The Polish Armed Forces activated fighter jets and increased the readiness of ground-based air defense systems in response to ongoing Russian attacks targeting Ukrainian territory. This decision was made amidst heightened activity of Russian drones, particularly Iranian-made Shahed drones, in western Ukraine.

The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces announced the measures on social media, indicating that both Polish and allied aviation were on alert as part of the precautionary actions taken to ensure security in the region. Military sources emphasized the importance of these measures in response to aerial threats and highlighted the focus on protecting airspace adjacent to areas under immediate threat from Russian aggression.

In Lviv alone, at least 13 individuals were reported injured following the attacks. In Ivano-Frankivsk, two fatalities resulted from a drone strike, with several others injured, including a six-year-old child.

In yet another incident, a Russian drone attack in Vinnytsia led to one confirmed death and injuries to 11 others. The response from Poland reflects a coordinated effort among NATO allies to monitor and deter threats from Russian military actions.

Polish military authorities stated that they are actively monitoring the situation, and their forces are ready for immediate response if necessary. Reporters from the Ukrainian military confirmed that from the evening of March 23 to the same time on March 24, nearly one thousand strike drones of various types were utilized by Russian forces against Ukrainian targets.
