The recent meeting, attended by Naftogaz CEO Serhiy Koretsky and European Union Deputy Ambassador Gediminas Navickas, focused on the aftermath of Russian attacks on the Druzhba pipeline infrastructure. Koretsky reported that the discussion included updates on the current state of the pipeline and the presentation of a systematic approach for its reconstruction.

This initiative aims to restore the pipeline according to European engineering and safety standards in order to mitigate the risks of recurring attacks. Europe has expressed interest in providing financial and technical assistance to expedite the repair works, highlighting the significance of the Druzhba pipeline for energy transport in the region.

The pipeline has been critical for oil transit from Russia to various European countries. Damage from the attacks has previously halted Russian oil transit through Druzhba, impacting energy supplies for several nations.

Koretsky emphasized the ongoing support from European partners at this crucial time, acknowledging the EU’s role in facilitating infrastructure recovery efforts. He conveyed optimism about the collaborative approach between Naftogaz and its European counterparts, particularly through joint investments in the Brody pumping station, which is a pivotal component of the Druzhba pipeline system.

Despite these efforts, the progress of restoration may be complicated by Hungary’s continued blockade of EU financial aid aimed at helping Ukraine. Hungary is reportedly conditioning its support on the resolution of issues concerning the resumption of oil transit, posing a further challenge to Ukraine's recovery efforts.

As the situation evolves, stakeholders maintain that the reconstruction of the Druzhba pipeline is essential not only for Ukraine's energy security but also for the stability of energy supplies to Europe. The collaboration between Naftogaz and European partners signals a unified stance against the ongoing threats to Ukraine's critical energy infrastructure.
