Family and comrades gathered in Kyiv to pay their respects to Mykola Lebediev, known by his call sign 'Dobryi', who was killed during a fierce battle in the ongoing conflict with Russia. Lebediev, a dual citizen born in Almaty in 1994, had moved with his family to Germany in 1996.

Rather than live a peaceful life in Europe, he was compelled by the tragedies in Bucha and Irpin to take action. Initially serving as a volunteer translator at the embassy, he later joined Ukraine's defense forces, driven by a strong sense of duty.
After successfully completing a rigorous selection process, Lebediev enlisted in the International Legion of the GUR and subsequently became part of the elite FERRATA unit. This special operations group is known for its critical missions and intense training.
Tributes from his fellow soldiers indicate that he was deeply respected, described as 'kind to comrades and merciless to enemies.' His selection of the call sign 'Dobryi' reflects not just his character but his approach as a warrior. Leberiev's final stand occurred during a winter offensive that lasted over two weeks.
He sustained serious injuries from shrapnel and drone strikes while fiercely defending his position. Even with significant wounds to both legs, he continued to provide cover for his unit’s retreat, playing a crucial role in halting the enemy's advance in the area.
His bravery and commitment to his compatriots shone through in life and death. At the memorial service, heartfelt tributes were paid to Lebediev's courage and sacrifice.
One comrade, identified by the call sign 'Devyaty', expressed deep sympathy towards Lebediev's family and reaffirmed their commitment to support them in this difficult time. Further tributes highlighted his strong character, emphasizing how he embodied the spirit of resistance against the ongoing aggression from occupying forces.
This event follows a recent similar farewell for Colonel Oleksandr Dovhachev, commander of the 39th Tactical Aviation Brigade, who was killed on March 9, underscoring the ongoing human cost of the conflict as family and comrades gather to honor those who have fallen in battle. Ukraine continues to experience profound losses as its soldiers fight fiercely for their country's sovereignty.
