Former Employee Arrested for Assisting Russian Attacks in Donetsk

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) apprehended the ex-chief of a workshop at a machine-building factory in Donetsk for reportedly aiding Russian military operations. According to the SBU, the man was drawn into collaboration with Russian forces after leaving the plant.

A former subordinate, who has been linked to Russian armed groups since 2014, allegedly approached him with an offer to assist in military operations. The provided information indicated that the suspect agreed to the proposal and began surveillance of Ukrainian defense forces, specifically tracking locations to facilitate Russian strikes.

Among the objectives targeted by the former manager were alternative command posts, logistical centers, and drone units situated in Kramatorsk and its surroundings. Utilizing Google Maps, he documented the coordinates of Ukrainian positions, marking them as he navigated the area covertly to avoid detection by military personnel and law enforcement agencies.

During these reconnaissance efforts, the SBU documented his activities and took precautions to secure the locations of Ukrainian defenders. The SBU's operation culminated in the arrest of the suspect, who was found in possession of a smartphone containing evidence of his activities on behalf of the Russian military.

The individual has been formally charged under Article 111, part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to treason committed during a state of war. He has been placed in custody without the option for bail.

If convicted, he faces a life sentence with asset forfeiture. This incident reflects ongoing concerns regarding espionage and sabotage efforts aimed at Ukrainian military infrastructure.
