On Ukrainian Volunteer Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky recognized the critical role of volunteers in defending the nation. During a ceremony, he awarded servicemen from the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine and civilians who have stepped up to support the country's fight against aggression.

The awards honored not only those who serve but also the families of volunteers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in this ongoing conflict. Zelensky noted that since Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the full-scale invasion starting in 2022, the response of ordinary Ukrainians to defend their homeland has been remarkable.
He emphasized how these volunteers have inspired many others to join the fight for Ukraine's independence and sovereignty. Zelensky shared heartfelt reflections on the losses endured by the nation, stating, 'We remember how much this means for Ukraine and what kind of people we are, tragically, losing in this war.' His remarks pay tribute to the courage and dedication exhibited by those who have given their lives in pursuit of freedom.
The president's acknowledgment of the sacrifices made underscores the national sentiment of unity and resilience that has emerged during these trying times. The ceremony also included a directive by Zelensky to honor 34 citizens with state awards specifically for their contributions to volunteer efforts.
This gesture reaffirms the government's commitment to recognize and celebrate those who choose to stand for their country, regardless of their circumstances. As Ukraine continues to navigate the challenges posed by external threats, the collective spirit demonstrated by volunteers remains a pillar of support, both on the battlefield and at home.
Zelensky concluded his address with a powerful message of gratitude to both the volunteers and the military: 'Glory to all Ukrainian warriors, and gratitude to all Ukrainian volunteers!' This statement encapsulates the deep appreciation held by the leadership for the essential roles these individuals play in the ongoing defense of Ukraine against aggression.
