During a ceremony marking Ukrainian Volunteer Day, President Volodymyr Zelensky presented state awards to 34 individuals from the Security and Defense Forces, as well as to civilian volunteers. This event, held recently, aimed to acknowledge the significant contributions made by these individuals in the defense of Ukraine.

In his address, Zelensky emphasized the vital role that volunteers have played since the Russian annexation of Crimea in 2014 and during the full-scale invasion that began in 2022. The President articulated the deep gratitude that the nation holds for these individuals, many of whom have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Zelensky stated that thousands of selfless Ukrainians stepped forward to protect the sovereignty of their nation and to support their fellow citizens in times of peril. He highlighted the profound impact volunteers have had on maintaining morale among the populace, asserting that their bravery has inspired countless others to stand firm against the aggressor.
He expressed sorrow over the loss of many courageous individuals who have given their lives in this ongoing conflict, stressing that their legacy lives on through the continued fight for freedom and independence. The President also took the opportunity to honor the families of fallen volunteers, delivering posthumous awards as a gesture of respect and remembrance.
This act provides a significant acknowledgment of the sacrifices made by these families, who have endured unimaginable loss. Zelensky’s recognition of volunteer contributions serves to unite the country under a shared narrative of resilience and determination, reinforcing the importance of community support in sustaining the war effort against Russia.
The annual observance of Volunteer Day serves to not only commemorate the heroes of Ukraine but also to galvanize collective support for the ongoing struggle for national integrity. As Ukraine continues to face challenges on the battlefield, the dedication of its volunteers remains a cornerstone of the nation's defense strategy.
These awards are a reminder of the price paid by so many and the enduring spirit that continues to drive the Ukrainian people forward.
