During a recent press briefing, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian teams dispatched to the Middle East are not involved in any military engagements, particularly with respect to Iran. He clarified that their mission is purely advisory, focusing on providing expertise related to defense against Iranian drones, specifically the Shahed model.

Zelensky noted that the teams consist of dozens of professionals, asserting that this initiative is a significant step toward structured international cooperation in security matters. Zelensky mentioned that three teams of experts have already been deployed.

He stressed the comprehensive capabilities of these teams, aiming to showcase effective defense measures. He articulated that their involvement is not indicative of military operations but rather a response to multiple requests from neighboring countries of Iran and others seeking assistance in countering drone threats.

The president expressed hopes that this collaboration could pave the way for more foundational and long-term agreements, which he referred to as a "Drone Deal" with Middle Eastern nations. This agreement is intended to solidify defense strategies against drone technologies that pose threats in the region.

In early March, Zelensky revealed that Ukraine had received 11 requests for security support from various countries, including European states and the United States, specifically targeting the Iranian Shahed drones. This reflects a broadening scope of international security collaboration, particularly in the context of escalating tensions involving drone technology.

Reports indicate that Zelensky's declarations aim to clarify Ukraine's involvement in the Middle East amidst rising concerns about Iranian influence through drone warfare. By clearly stating the nature of the Ukrainian mission, Zelensky hopes to reinforce Ukraine’s commitment to contributing to regional security without direct military engagement.

As these diplomatic discussions continue and relationships with regional powers develop, the implications for Ukraine's international standing are significant, especially as it seeks to build partnerships globally in the face of ongoing conflict at home.
