Soldiers of the 79th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade 'Tavriia,' part of Ukraine's 7th Rapid Reaction Corps, successfully neutralized the 2nd Battalion of the 5th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade 'Oplot' in a recent operation in the Pokrovsk area. This apparent victory was reported via the brigade's official Facebook account, detailing the extent of the Russian losses.
According to the announcement, the Oplot Battalion suffered critical and irreparable losses, leading to its withdrawal from combat for full replenishment. The ongoing clash marks a significant moment in the longstanding conflict between Ukrainian and Russian forces, particularly as the 5th Donetsk Motorized Rifle Brigade has a historical presence in the region, having engaged in battles at key sites such as Donetsk Airport since 2014.
Despite continuous efforts by the enemy to regroup and reinforce its ranks, the Ukrainian paratroopers have maintained a resolute strategy, effectively disrupting hostile operations and thwarting the enemy's plans. Additional reports indicate that remnants of the Russian forces are shifting positions from Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad towards other nearby settlements.
This tactical move appears to be a preparation for renewed assault operations targeting areas north of these cities, raising concerns about potential escalations in conflict in those regions. Recent military activity in the area has been intense, with reports of 49 attacks on Ukrainian positions by Russian forces noted by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The fiercest fighting has been concentrated in regions including Huliaipole, Kostiantynivka, and significantly, Pokrovsk. The successful operation by the 79th Brigade underscores the continued resilience of Ukrainian military units in the face of Russian advances, as they adapt and respond to the shifting dynamics of battlefield engagements.
