Ukraine Urges OSCE for Stronger Sanctions on Russia's Missile Production

Call for Enhanced Sanctions

During the OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation, Ukraine's delegation highlighted the necessity of stronger sanctions against Russia. They revealed that over 60 components used in Russian missile production are sourced from other countries.

These components often enter Russia using various evasion tactics. Ukraine argued that dismantling these channels is essential in countering Russian military aggression. The delegation also noted Russia's use of Iranian-made drones, indicating a wider threat to global security.

Importance of Air Defense

Delegates emphasized the importance of bolstering air defense systems alongside the proposed sanctions. This dual approach is considered vital for Ukraine's defense and for enhancing security across Europe and the Middle East against missile threats.

They warned that without robust international support for air defense systems, Russia may increase its missile capabilities. The delegation called for full backing of the EU's 20th sanctions package, aimed at reducing Russia's military power.

They cautioned that lifting these sanctions could allow Russia to gain around $10 billion, which could be directed towards missile and drone production.

Ongoing Threats

President Volodymyr Zelensky supported the delegation's call for stricter sanctions, stating that Russia conducts 5 to 6 major strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure each month, increasingly relying on ballistic missiles. This demand for decisive action is framed as a critical response to immediate threats and a strategic move toward ensuring future international stability.
