During a working visit to Moldova, Ukraine’s Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity Denys Uliutin, and Moldova’s Minister of Labour and Social Protection Natalia Plugaru finalized an agreement designed to bolster the social rights of citizens in both nations. This initiative represents a significant step in regional cooperation and aims to provide essential protections for those affected by the social security statutes of either country.
The agreement encompasses pivotal social security aspects, including old-age pensions, disability and survivors’ pensions, as well as benefits for temporary incapacity due to illness or maternity. Additionally, it addresses insurance for workplace accidents and occupational diseases, along with funeral benefits.
Uliutin emphasized that this arrangement is crucial for preventing the loss of insurance rights, facilitating fair access to social benefits, and enhancing legal certainty for citizens who work or reside outside their home country. The clarity and transparency established by this agreement regarding social security coordination is expected to promote labor mobility between Ukraine and Moldova, thereby deepening economic relationships between the two neighboring nations.
The signing was reported as an essential component of the broader strategy both countries adopted to improve social protections amidst the evolving political and economic landscape in Eastern Europe. It is expected to give citizens confidence in their rights, encouraging cross-border work and residence.
Furthermore, this agreement aligns with ongoing discussions between Ukraine and other European nations regarding labor cooperation and social policy development, underscoring a progressive shift towards interconnected governance in the region. Upcoming updates may showcase further developments from the ongoing dialogue between the involved parties, especially as reforms are pursued in both Ukraine and Moldova.
The cooperation established through this agreement may serve as a model for future bilateral initiatives addressing similar social challenges in Eastern Europe.
