SBU Detains Former Factory Chief for Adjusting Russian Attacks

The arrest comes amid ongoing tensions and hostilities in the Donetsk region. The SBU's counterintelligence division apprehended the individual for allegedly coordinating Russian air attacks after being recruited by occupation forces following his departure from the factory.

According to the SBU, the man was approached by a former colleague who had joined Russian armed groups in 2014 and was engaged in recruitment for Russian intelligence services. This connection led the former factory chief to gather intelligence on the locations of Ukrainian defense forces in the area.

Reports indicate that the individual was tasked with identifying critical Ukrainian military assets, including reserve command posts and logistics hubs, especially around Kramatorsk. He reportedly used Google Maps to mark the coordinates of these sites, which were then relayed back to Russian military command.

During his reconnaissance missions, the agent consciously avoided contact with Ukrainian military personnel and law enforcement, demonstrating intent to evade capture. SBU operatives had been closely monitoring his activities and were successful in documenting his movements prior to his arrest.

They took measures to enhance the security of Ukrainian positions in anticipation of the information he was gathering. The arrest marks a significant success for Ukrainian counterintelligence efforts to thwart infiltration and assist the military in defending against external aggressions.

Following his apprehension, the suspect was notified of charges under Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, relating to state treason committed under conditions of martial law. He remains in custody without the option for bail, facing severe penalties, including life imprisonment and asset confiscation if convicted.
